MULTIPLE TEXTILE TECHNIQUES WITH PORTRAITS
The many techniques used to create the art quilts in this folio include dyed and hand painted wholecloth, dry needle felting combined with hand painted applique, digital and hand embroidery, digital fabric printing, couching and hand and machine piecing.


NIGHT WONDER - completed 2019. H 87.5 x W 43.5 cms. Part of artist's collection.
A clear Australian sky at night with the vast expanse of the Milky Way is a wondrous sight for my grandchildren. Dye painted and printed with cold wax resist on whole Japara cotton cloth with free machine quilting.

EXUBERANCE - completed 2012. H 150 x W 75 cms. Sold to private collector.
Dry needle felting with yarns is the main process for this visual exploration of the unstoppable, effusive abundance of life. Hand dye painted portraits on Japara cotton are integrated by the needle felting process on to acid dyed woollen batting.

BRING ME BACK - completed 2012. H 66 x W 123 cms. Sold to private collector.
This work focuses on schizophrenia. From left to right three phases of a psychotic episode are explored. Needle felted yarns, felt, recycled clothing with dye painted cotton applique are needle felted to acid dyed woollen batting. The yarn wrapped aluminium frame supports this very soft, pliable work.

WALKABOUT COUNTRY - completed 2009. H 83.5 x W 195 cms.
This art quilt, inspired by the vast landscape of the Western Australia Coral coast, is constructed with machine and hand pieced cotton fabrics with hand painted applique. Intense couching quilts the work. Winner of the Best of Show ACQUISITIVE award at the Australian Cotton Fibre Expo 2009.

CONNECTIONS - completed 2008. H 156 x W 106 cms. Part of artist's collection.
The artist is the centre of her complex and infinitely fascinating world with connections to everything around her including planets of our solar system, a supernova, insects and plant fossils embedded in sedimentary rock strata. The lines which meander through her busy and interesting world represent the power and fruitfulness of my imagination. Hand dyed drawings, hand and machine pieced with couching and original digital and hand embroidery. This work has won many prizes.

Vera is remembered for her busy passion for all kinds of craft work right up to her last day. A very feminine woman, she put all her efforts into the well being of others. This work incorporates appliqued crochet, embroidery and hardanger by Vera and digital prints of some of Vera's constant production of soft toys. Vera's portrait is a digital print combined with some of the artist's own hair.

These self portraits are drawn and dye painted on cotton fabric. Commercial and hand dyed fabrics are hand and machine pieced with machine quilting to complete the work.

This self portrait depicts the pleasurable ambience of the artist's life when she shares a meal with family and friends. The central self portrait is hand dye painted. Dense machine embroidery and quilting overworked with applique and hand sewn couching give it a very rich surface.

THE THREE CONTENDERS - completed 2011. H 111 x W 135 cms. Sold to private collector.
These are portraits of baby Byron and the family pets: Monty cat and Mr Texas ciclid. Both baby and cat are wanting to catch the curious but elusive fish. Made with machine pieced commercial and hand dyed cotton fabrics, free machine quilted.
